Volumetric Weight Calculations

Dimensional weight (also known as volumetric weight) is used by air carriers in order to make efficient use of cargo space in an aircraft and to avoid overloading by volume.

When calculating the transportation cost, the actual weight is compared with the dimensional weight and the greater of the two chosen. The method for calculating the DIM weight is approved by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
